Jinmo certainly creates a wide variety of sounds out of his guitar, sometimes using distortion and odd effects while at other times displaying a purer sound. Most of the music on his solo set Live at the Knitting Factory is quite free and emphasizes sound explorations although, even at his most fiery, Jinmo tends to be thoughtful. But overall, the results do not wear well in repeated listenings. Once one strips away the flash and color, there is very little of interest occurring during these performances. One keeps on waiting for Jinmo to settle down and play some music, but it never does occur.
