The fine Italian trumpeter Franco Ambrosetti digs into two standards, a George Gruntz song, and two by Kenny Barron (including "Voyage") on this lively club date. Ambrosetti has long been able to hold his own with Americans, as he shows in his interaction with tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake, pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Ira Coleman, and drummer Victor Lewis. The music is hard bop, and Ambrosetti comes up with fresh statements on such songs as "Just Friends," "Body and Soul," and "Voyage." This is just one in a series of excellent Ambrosetti sets for Enja, all of which are easily recommended.
