In a way the live companion to STRAWBERRIES, this set is pretty typical of an early '80s Damned performance. If you took zaniness with your punk, there was Dave Vanian in full vampire regalia; Captain Sensible dressed as a ballerina or perhaps a nurse; and Rat Scabies generally behaving like the drum-bashing maniac he was.
LIVE AT NEWCASTLE includes a rocked-out version of "Generals," the scathing anti-Ronald Reagan rant "Bad Time for Bonzo," a tune about a guy with purple underwear, "Dozen Girls," and the ever popular paean to bad relationships everywhere, "Love Song." For everyone's enjoyment, the audience chant of "Sensible is a wanker" is included, as is his own unprintable retort. LIVE IN NEWCASTLE is a well thought-out addition to the Damned collection.
