Pianist John Campbell stretches out during the eight standards he performs during his Maybeck Recital Hall solo set. An exuberant player, Campbell often switches back and forth between two keys during a song (sometimes during every chorus), a device he sometimes overuses. An up-tempo version of "Emily" is a particular surprise, and his explorations of "Just Friends," "You and the Night and the Music," and "Easy to Love" are particularly memorable.
