Live at Gilley's captures a concert Bobby Bare gave in April 1984. Bare wasn't exactly at the height of his popularity at that time, but he was still a fine performer, as this 12-disc album proves. There are a few throwaways here, but the performances themselves are all top-notch; he sounds particularly good when tackling classics like "500 Miles Away from Home," "Ride Me Down Easy," "Tequila Sheila," and "Detroit City." Ultimately, a latter-day live recording isn't of interest for anyone outside of hardcore fans, but they'll likely be pleased by this solid live album.
