AllMusic Review by

Trumpeter Howard McGhee is caught late in his career on this collector's LP playing at a New Jersey club called Emerson's. McGhee and his sextet (which includes both Frank Wess and Charlie Rouse on tenors, pianist Jim Roberts, bassist Lisle Atkinson and drummer Jual Curtis) perform a repertoire that ranges from an opening blues and Jimmy Heath's "Big P." to the forgotten standard "Deep Night," Jobim's "Meditation" and a few McGhee originals. This boppish date will be difficult to find but it does feature the veteran trumpeter in pretty good late-period form.
