The music on this set is likable enough but corn often lurks just beneath the surface. A Dixieland session featuring ten overdone warhorses, this set finds trumpeter Kevin Clark emulating Al Hirt a bit (with an excess of notes), trombonist Harry Watters showing off both impressive chops and dated humor, and clarinetist Michael Bennett sometimes sounding as if he would feel a lot more comfortable in a more modern setting. Other than an odd rhythm given a slower than normal version of "Milneburg Joys," nothing unusual or unexpected occurs on this rather predictable and uninventive Dixieland date.
