AllMusic Review by

The third in a series of eight sets of mostly previously unreleased Art Tatum performances covers the second half of the 1940s, shortly after Tatum had broken up his popular trio. These 21 piano solos include a few rare V-Discs, three appearances from radio shows, and ten numbers from a private party from 1949; the latter had never been released before. While some of the party numbers include crowd noise, the piano playing is consistently miraculous. Among the many highlights is a romp on "Song of the Vagabonds," a sensitive version of "Stay as Sweet as You Are," and such rarely performed numbers by Tatum as "The Continental" and Chopin's Valse in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 64, No. 2.
