Pulp's first single for Island, "Lipgloss" featured Jarvis Cocker's most incisive lyric since "Babies," as he chronicled a disintigrating relationship in terms of fetishes. The swirling synthesized hooks were dark, glitzy and oddly tragic, creating a perfect backdrop for Cocker's heartbroken lyric and vocal. The B-sides -- "You're A Nightmare" and "Deep Fried In Kelvin" -- were entertaining and neither showed up on the following album, His N Hers.
