AllMusic Review by

R&B vocalist and actress Mya began working on her fourth album in 2004, originally under the ominous title CONTROL FREAK. A series of setbacks including a falling-out with her original label and administrative shakeups at her new label, Motown Records, delayed the album's release until late 2007. Out of the business turmoil and seemingly endless sessions with a variety of hot chart producers and songwriters, Mya's LIBERATION is a sleek, powerful, up-to-the-minute contemporary R&B album that showcases the diminutive singer's powerhouse pipes. Highlights include the first two singles--the Scott Storch-produced "Lock U Down," featuring guest raps by Lil' Wayne, and the Tricky Stewart collaboration "Ridin'"--as well as a collaboration with neo-soul singer Penelope Jones, "I Am."
