Though attached to a typically broad Jim Carrey comedy, John Debney's music for Liar Liar is surprisingly intimate and heartfelt, with a genuine playfulness that's refreshing. Employing a thematic unity that's no less rare within the popcorn comedy genre, Debney creates a series of light yet soulful melodies that crackle with energy. Despite the presence of a full-scale orchestra, the music boasts a personal touch all too rare in mainstream Hollywood composing. MCA's official soundtrack release clocks in at a too-brief-29 minutes, but it will have to do until a specialty movie music label gives Liar Liar the deluxe treatment it deserves.
