Let the Good Times Roll, Vol. 2 is a fine sampling of 20 classic New Orleans R&B tracks. While Vol. 1 is highly recommended, this second volume is even better. The Fats Domino tracks are scaled back to two, making more space available for Benny Spellman, Amos Milburn, Bobby Mitchell, Lee Dorsey, Shirley & Lee, Irma Thomas, the Showmen, Ernie K-Doe, Lloyd Price, Earl King, Little Richard, and Smiley Lewis. The compilers also had the good taste to include a few tracks that don't often show up on hits-based packages, such as "Bon Ton Roulet" by Clarence "Bon Ton" Garlow, "3 x 7 = 21" by Jewel King, and "Stack-A-Lee, Pt. 1" by Leon T. Gross (aka Archibald). While there is nothing new here for the collector, these are the original recordings from the vaults of Imperial, Amy, Aladdin, Minit, and Speciality, and along with the companion volume, Let the Good Times Roll, Vol. 2 is highly recommended.
