This ended a four-year drought -- when it came to solo Top Ten singles, at least -- for Ne-Yo. Given the climate, he likely knew he'd have to hit with an EDM track rather than with an R&B ballad. Sure enough, the song built on his success with Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" and Calvin Harris' "Let's Go," and it performed much better than "Beautiful Monster," his own previous dance-pop departure. It's a dizzying hybrid of sorts -- part adult contemporary, part dance anthem, with an 85-second buildup to the first beat. Effective, but not among Mr. Smith's best.
