Direct Source's Let It Rock 1989 gathers up 12 songs from that year. The set includes some of the year's biggest hits in a variety of styles. There are pop/rock gems from Cyndi Lauper ("I Drove All Night") and Bad English ("When I See You Smile"), dance-pop by New Kids on the Block ("Hangin' Tough") and Jody Watley ("Real Love"), hair metal from Warrant, alt-metal from Living Colour, and even a bit of alternative rock (Love and Rockets' "So Alive"). Although it is too brief and leaves out a great deal of what was going on that year, the collection does serve nicely as a low-priced intro to the sounds of 1989.
