Direct Source's Let It Rock 1988 gathers up 12 songs from that year. The set includes some of the year's biggest hits in a variety of styles. There are dance-pop charters like Pebbles' "Mercedes Boy" and Jody Watley's "Some Kind of Lover," mainstream pop/rock hits like INXS' "Need You Tonight" and Belinda Carlisle's "I Get Weak," urban smashes from the Jets ("Make It Rain") and Brenda K. Starr ("I Still Believe"), and even a great hair metal power ballad from Cinderella ("Don't Know What You Got [Till It's Gone]"). Although it is too brief and leaves out a great deal of what was going on that year, the collection does serve nicely as a low-priced intro to the sounds of 1988.
