Plus Belles Chansons: Paris is a beautiful collection of classic French music that collects many of the popular regional pop songs of the 20th Century. The artists, ranging from Mick Micheyl to Maurice Chevalier, are all fine examples of the French pop that American hipster culture would fall in love with during the 40's and 50's. Big, orchestrated arrangements carry the various singers quite beautifully through songs that may be familiar to anyone who has experienced this genre before. There are a few choices that are questionable, but overall this is a well done compilation. Fans of this time in French pop should get this if they don't already have the music, and casual listeners who only know the stereotypical Hollywood portrayal of this music should also give this a try.
