A decent compilation of early works from Carlos Gardel, the great vocalist of the tango tradition, and one of the creators of the movement. Some of the greatest works by the artist are included, such as "Caminito" and "Volver," though other notable works are missing ("Por Una Cabeza"). Really, any compilation of Gardel works can be very pleasant to a fan of tango, and this one is no exception -- others may be better in some ways, such as EMI's release on the Hemisphere label. Aside from that, though, the only possible problem with the album would most likely be the low quality of some of the recordings, though they've already been mastered up to the best possible quality from the low-tech original recordings; that would be another reason to prefer the EMI release -- the recording quality is slightly better.
