A solid and diverse compilation of Latin jazz from High Note's catalog, these ten tracks are a cross-section of the music's veterans, as well as latter-day bandleaders who have been deeply influenced by the early sounds of Latin jazz as it arrived on the bebop scene with Machito and Chano Pozo. There are tunes here by Dave Valentin, Sammy Figueroa, Santi Debriano, Ray Mantilla, Silvano Monasterios, Steve Turre, and Bill O'Connell. Pay particular attention to "Manny's Mambo," by Turre, Valentin's "Bronx Serenade," and Figuero's "Firm Roots."
