In a reissue/compilation-happy culture, good soul compilations can be somewhat of a challenge to find. Often there are a few gems surrounded by lackluster cuts that are praised for market value if only for their scarcity. This most certainly is not the case here, as Late Night Dusties is an extremely solid compilation from start to finish. Covering the anthem that kicked off a whole genre (Smokey Robinson's "Quiet Storm"), jazz, soul, funk, and even a little bit of early-'80s romanticism (the Art of Noise's classic "Moments in Love"), it's absolutely essential early-morning/late-night listening after a good night out on the town.
