Although this is pianist Gordon Lee's date, the music is of particular interest due to the playing of the late tenor and soprano saxophonist Jim Pepper. With bassist Calvin Hill and drummer Bob Moses adding stimulating interplay, this is a high-quality post-bop set that is both often melodic and adventurous. Pepper and Lee contributed three songs apiece, and the group also performs the standard "Autumn in New York." Lee deserves to be much better known while Pepper is heard throughout at his best. This CD from the Enja subsidiary Tutu is recommended.
