Land of My Fathers: A Tribute to the Welsh Football Team is part of a series put together by Cherry Red saluting various football clubs in the U.K. This disc follows the usual pattern of mixing songs and spoken word with many actual goal calls included. On the music side there are some inspirational Welsh songs sung by choirs (a Welsh medley by the Band & Choir of the Prince of Wales' Division, "Men of Harlech" by the Blaenavon Male Voice Choir), songs by players on the Welsh team (Vinny Jones' dash through "Wooly Bully"), songs the Welsh team and their fans used for inspiration ("Delilah" by Grace, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by Barry Glamorgan, "Men of Harlech [Dance Version]" by Native Intelligence), and a couple of indie pop-styled tributes to Welsh stars (Rainbow Choir's cutie-pie ode to Welsh favorite Ryan Giggs, titled simply enough "Ryan Giggs We Love You," and Barker's "70s Football Star"). Apart from the goal calls, there is Richard Burton's stirring "The V.C. Roll and Men of Harlech" recitation and a lengthy remembrance of Welsh legend John Charles by former teammates and coaches. The disc is lovingly collected and packaged, and while it holds no interest to anyone but fanatical Welsh followers, for them it will be a welcome and essential purchase.
