The best split singles team artists whose records you'd pick up even if there wasn't somebody kick-ass on the flip side, and this Dump/Lambchop joint (as opposed to a Lambchop Dump, which will keep you on the can for hours) is no exception. James McNew checks in with a fragile rendition of the Go-Betweens' heartbreaking "Dive for Your Memory," reaffirming his stature as a pop classic interpreter nonpareil. Lambchop contributes a live reading of the Nixon highlight "Up With People," easily the most cynically uplifting song since at least "Born in the U.S.A." (albeit misinterpreted by far fewer people). Lambchop's a great live band, but this version -- sans the gospel choir that lifted the original to something resembling a secular heaven (Wrigley Field, perhaps?) -- just doesn't channel the same electricity. Limited to 1,500 copies.
