AllMusic Review by

Though little remembered today, during the 1940s Kay Kyser was one of the most popular bandleaders in the land, his records selling more than Benny Goodman's or Tommy Dorsey's. While the majority of his Columbia best-sellers now languish in the vaults, we have this disc of old radio broadcasts of his Kollege of Musical Knowledge, the most popular musical program on radio from 1938 to 1948. Heard here are the 1941 and 1943 G.I. Journal shows, featuring the band and vocalists Harry Babbitt, Dorothy Dunn, Julie Conway, Sully Mason, Trudy Erwin, and Georgia Carroll. Although some of the radio humor is straight off the cob, Kyser's enthusiasm is contagious, and it's easy to see why the band became such a hit with the public.
