AllMusic Review by

Here is one of the oddest compilations to come down the pike in ages. 13 voices from various realms of the electronic underground (with an emphasis on U.S. homegrown acts) are supplied with sample food from the likes of Gentle Giant(!) and proceed to work their magic on said '70s delicacy. What emerges is the ultimate bastardization of progressive rock, supremely updated, dug out deep from the digital dirt, and re-shaped into forms of a uniformly untoward nature.

Progressivism hurts here, and, like nature, finds a way. That way is to be reincarnated into the re-interpreted vernacular of 21st century audio code. Demented go these "gruuves," but the contributors take it seriously. Catch the tangled edge caught up in Colongib's "Agent Tingle," Kid606's elastic bandwidths of "Over and Under," and the noize-cum-prog-beats of Phthalocyanine's "Impasto Beard." More than human, and gnawing on Giant remains, this is the stuff soon to evolve into the next step in the evolution of musique progressique. KNOTS is hugely necessary in any collection caught up in the new millennium's (mostly) cookie-cutter electronica.
