AllMusic Review by

The last of Ivor Novello's many stage successes, King's Rhapsody wasn't exactly cutting edge, but it did offer some elements of modern theater, amid its operetta-like ballads and Vanessa Lee and company's traditional operatic vocalizing, mostly in the form of an extended musical part for the orchestra. The playing and singing are superb, and the music and the piece obviously had considerable appeal at the time, given its 899 performances (in an era when 400 performances constituted a huge hit).
