This collection features the titular King, Solomon Burke, in fine voice on a heavily New Orleans-influenced set that splits selections from his LIVE AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES album with cuts from SOUL OF THE BLUES. The studio set commences with Ray Brown's "Good Rockin' Tonight" which finds Burke doing his best blues shouter impersonation, while Willie Dixon's "My Babe" gets the full New Orleans second-line treatment. The deep soul of "Letter From My Darlin'" is accented by some excellent organ playing and a little patented Burke-style preaching over the intro.
The live half of the album features Burke at his inimitable best, playing to a packed New Orleans club with a great band and a neat line in stage patter. If you want your studio Solomon Burke leavened with a little live action, look no further.
