A 26-track compilation of the best punk singles issued in the Netherlands between 1977-1982, Killed By Epitaph was originally released by Epitaph's European arm as a CD collection titled "I'm Sure We're Gonna Make It". Well-received in that format, it's similarity to the long-established Killed By Death series prompted an unofficial vinyl-only reissue under what is surely a far more appropriate title.
Compiled by Dutch punk expert Jeroen Vedder, Killed By Epitaph really does round up some of his native land's most intriguing (not to mention eminently collectible) releases, including several bands -- but not, necessarily, songs -- that had already appeared elsewhere in the Killed By Death series. Welcome back, then, the Flyin' Spiderz, the Molesters, the Filth, Mecano Ltd., and Subway: bands whose presence on this set confirms the efficiency both of this collection and of those past efforts that also exhumed them from obscurity.
Heavily annotated and exquisitely detailed, Killed By Epitaph packs a sound quality that readily improves on other albums in this series, and emerges -- its "official" origins notwithstanding -- among the most essential collections of them all.
