With its flat, occasionally out-of-tune vocals and plastic synthesizer backgrounds, Kid's Tunes: Pop Hits for Kids is no match for Razor & Tie's children's music juggernaut Kidz Bop. Kid's Tunes features a husky-voiced male dueting with a voice that could be anything from a woman to a child to a robot. As such it doesn't even feel very appropriate for children, since its motives and identity get obscured behind the terrible arrangements and queasy vocals. Listeners looking for kid-friendly pop music should head to the Kidz Bop series, which, while fascinating on one level, is mostly just energetic kids shouting playfully along with jaunty remakes of recent hit singles. And that's good clean fun.
