Directed by Lou Barlow, the Kids soundtrack is an excellent, moody collection of lo-fi indie rock pleasures. Mainly, it's devoted to Barlow's numerous side projects, most notably The Folk Implosion, who scored a surprise hit single with the eerie "Natural One." There are also two Daniel Johnston songs, and a contribution from the frightening noise rock band Slint, but the real meat of the package lies with Barlow's songs. Alternately introspective and poppy, they rank among his best work.
