Kianda Ki Anda is a fine mix of updated traditional Angolan songs and new compositions. The international cast of musicians that Filipe Mukenga has assembled here includes some of the best from Africa and the French Antilles. Mukenga's voice is languidly tropical and is complemented by lush arrangements, fat horns, and nimble guitar work. The traditional "Humbiumbi" is given a beautiful rendition that is very Cuban in flavor. Mukenga's voice and the accompanying chorus are sweet with soul. Some of the other tracks are Angolan dance rhythms that generate a high groove quotient. Mukenga is a very well-respected musician in his native Angola and he doesn't disappoint with this album. He gives listeners soulful ballads along with cha chas and Angolan kizombas to dance to. What he does, he does with great style and finesse. Highly recommended.
