AllMusic Review by

Ace designed their Kent's Cellar of Soul series as a showcase for the golden age of soul, making each generous volume a showcase for classic sides from the '60s presented in their original mono single mixes. The third installment, released early in 2014, specializes in songs released between 1965 and 1969, anchoring the collection on hits by Brenton Wood ("Gimme Little Sign"), Lowell Fulsom ("Tramp"), and Cliff Nobles ("The Horse"), along with strong selections by James Carr ("Freedom Train") and Clarence Carter ("Funky Fever"). This illustrates that there is a pretty wide variety of sounds here, anything from a cool, sophisticated strut to down-and-dirty Southern soul, and that variety, combined with sharp song selections that balance the just-familiar with the rarely heard, makes this an exceptional collection.
