AllMusic Review by

The psychedelic Californian label Zemir introduced guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto in 2002 with this two-track EP, but his trio has little to do with the previous productions of Vine Sweetland and company. Kaleidoscopic Reentry is pure hard bop jazz from an electric fusion perspective. Nishimoto hints at early Pat Metheny and vintage Al DiMeola with his dreamy runs over a bouncy rhythm section (bassist Aubrey Torres and drummer Joe Gilster, both quite skilled). Both the title track and "Ecliptic Yesteryears" are simple compositions, extended jams over a simple but carefully written vamp. Nishimoto's playing lacks the fluidity of a first-class player and maybe a bit of originality too, but it shows promise and so does this EP.
