This duo date featuring bassist Niels Pedersen and guitarist Rune Gustafsson covers a wide range of material and jazz styles. Beginning with the 1970s pop smash by Billy Joel, "Just the Way You Are" (which was actually of interest to jazz fans because of Phil Woods' effortless alto sax solo), the pair delve into bop with dazzling runs through "Laverne Walk," "Hot House," and "Seven Steps to Heaven," swing with "Jitterbug Waltz" and "Slipped Disc," as well as bossa nova with "How Insensitive." Pedersen obviously has found a soul mate in Gustafsson, as they complement one another perfectly throughout this pair of sessions. Although they first played together in 1963, this marks their first recording as a duo. Released by Sonet in Europe on LP, this record may be a bit difficult to track down.
