AllMusic Review by

Just for Fun is a lighthearted sampler of brisk and vibrant classical excerpts selected as background music for playtime and happy occasions. The upbeat mood of this collection is made clear from the beginning, with the Rondo from Mozart's Serenade No. 13 "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" being as chipper an opening as anyone could choose. While the Vivace from Bach's Double Concerto in D minor introduces a note of seriousness -- not all fast music is jolly -- and the remaining pieces are lively and cheerful enough to keep the clouds away. Even when an air of mystery is evoked, as in the Scherzo from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream or in de Falla's The Neighbors' Dance, the music is so spirited and ingratiating that any sense of darkness is only temporary. The waltzes of Delibes, Chopin, and Strauss are buoyantly played, and Borodin's Dance of the Maidens and Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Little Swans add splashes of orchestral color. Although this CD is plainly marketed to adults, its light fare is ideal for children who want to learn about classical music in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The tracks are not uniformly digital or evenly adjusted for dynamics, so variations in sound quality may be a concern.
