There are no hidden treasures here. That being said, the issuers of this record do the world a wonderful favor by its release. Most of the Perry-produced Marley has been issued before in contexts crippled by academic overtones. In other words, one version of a song after another. It's all great music, but how many versions of "Soul Rebel" does one want to listen to in a row? For that reason, it's great to have these tunes in one place and arranged in a manner that makes them accessible and danceable. A word of caution: This isn't dub in the King Tubby manner, or even in the vein of the Upsetters' later experiments. Most of what's here are strictly danceable instrumental versions of the hits, albeit with a twist here and there. Those looking for intellectual oceans of sound might look elsewhere. Fans of the Wailers or those looking for a good party record, search no further.
