This long out-of-print Trip Lp features tenor-saxophonist Charlie Ventura on 11 performances that were originally released on EmArcy, some of which have also been reissued by Savoy. Ventura's exuberant sound sometimes masked a creative swing style although he also left his music open to the influence of bop. Ventura is heard on four big band numbers from 1946 and in combos with such sidemen as trumpeters Charlie Ventura and Buck Clayton, trombonists Bennie Green, Bill Harris and Kai Winding and pianist Lou Stein; in addition Buddy Stewart and Jackie & Roy take a few vocals. Due to the sampler nature of this set (all of Ventura's underrated music should be reissued complete and in chronological order), the album is not that essential.
