The debut recording by the Frankie Capp-Nat Pierce Juggernaut features a big band full of all-stars playing swing standards in the style of Count Basie; the CD reissue adds two selections to the original set. With such soloists as trombonist Buster Cooper, tenors Richie Kamuca and Plas Johnson, trumpeter Blue Mitchell, altoist Marshal Royal and pianist Pierce (who consistently sounds like Basie), the renditions of such songs as "Avenue 'C'," "Moten Swing" and "Dickie's Dream" are quite enjoyable. Ernie Andrews sings the final three numbers, not slowing down the momentum on this spirited live session one bit. Recommended.
