This double LP contains eight of the tenor saxophonist's finest jam session performances of the 1950s. All of the music has since been reissued on CD, but this two-fer acts as an excellent introduction to these strong recordings. The best is "Happy Blues," but all of the selections (which feature such fine players as trumpeters Art Farmer, Donald Byrd and Idrees Sulieman, altoists Lou Donaldson and Jackie McLean, guitarist Kenny Burrell and pianists Freddie Redd, Duke Jordan and Mal Waldron) are enjoyable. True Gene Ammons collectors will want the complete sessions, though.
