Texas swing, blues, ragtime, jazz, country, string-laden ballads, and Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring comprise this set of songs that features friends of Willie Nelson, with Nelson playing lead on an instrumental "Sweet Georgia Brown" and lending backup or lead vocals to "Dirty Thunder" (the Fryed Brothers), "It's Magic" (the Dean Martin-esque Don Cherry), "The Gypsy" (Jackie King), and "I'm Just an Old Chunk of Coal" (the Honky Tonk Heroes). He's showcasing here -- this is a compilation of songs from ten albums put out by the Freefalls label -- but the talent's exceptional and, although one wouldn't want to say he's hardly missed on the tracks he doesn't contribute to, the styles are so varied that he couldn't possibly fit into all of them.
