This release--almost eerily timed with her death--represents the first compilation of Dutch-born 1960s pop singer Maria Pereboom aka Suzie. A world music artist before there was such nomenclature, Suzie--who could fluently sing in seven languages--was a European distributor’s dream. She was micro-marketed in different countries, but the market that lapped her up most was Germany, where she topped the charts for 17 straight weeks with “Johnny Komm” and even had the Beatles as a support act on a tour in 1963. JOHNNY KOMM compiles all of her German sides in one place and features a 28-page booklet with notes by the singer herself. An under-the-radar must for fans of European ‘60s pop and girl groups.
