AllMusic Review by

Jewel Records, founded in 1963 by Stan Lewis in Shreveport, Louisiana, along with the subsidiary labels Paula and Ronn, had an artist catalog that freely mixed all manner of Southern blues and gospel artists, from Memphis Slim to the Soul Stirrers, and one genre was as good as the other to Lewis, all of which gave the various gospel sides released by Jewel a wonderfully secular feel, and if the lyrics were about Heaven and redemption, the actual sound of the records was pure Southern soul. This set dips into that gospel-soul material, and it makes a fine introduction to this important and influential independent label.
