Drummer Pam Pameijer leads the Jelly Roll Morton 100 Years tribute, which celebrated the hundredth anniversary of the pianist's birth in the year this album was released. Accompanied by pianist Butch Thompson, one of the best interpreters of Morton's music, clarinetist Brian Ogilvie (on eight of the 11 tracks), and cornetist Tony Pringle (on three selections), Pameijer and company prove there is plenty of life left in Morton's music. Thompson's jaunty duet with the leader of "The Crave," Olgivie's genuine New Orleans-style clarinet on "Turtle Twist," and Pringle's sassy cornet in "Sweet Peter" are all among the highlights of this recording. Holding it all together is Pameijer's just right touch on the drums.
