AllMusic Review by

This collection of spirited jazz and jump blues tracks finds the Nat "King" Cole Trio in its early days immediately before it signed to Columbia Records and Cole began his rapid rise to fame. Mostly consisting of radio transcription recordings made in the early 1940s, THE JAZZMAN features Cole's accomplished singing and jazz piano playing on a variety of standards like "Besame Mucho" and "After You've Gone," as well as group originals like the wittily titled "A Trio Grooves in Brooklyn" and "Straighten Up and Fly Right."
