AllMusic Review by

On the second of two United Artists LP samplers that trace the development of Pacific Jazz in the 1950s (there were also two covering the 1960s), several famous recording sessions are covered. The Art Pepper Nine plays Shorty Rogers' "Po Po," the Chico Hamilton Quintet, Jim Hall Trio, Bob Brookmeyer Quintet and an all-star sax section headed by baritonist Gerry Mulligan are heard from, trumpeter Chet Baker is featured on two numbers, Wes Montgomery plays "Bock To Bock" and Cannonball Adderley performs "St. Louis Blues" with Gil Evans. Superb music that has mostly reappeared in more complete fashion on CD.
