AllMusic Review by

What exactly a hit is has always been a relative term. It can refer to chart positioning, naturally, and there was a time when jazz tracks dominated the charts, although by the very end of the 20th century and into the 21st, jazz had been marginalized commercially. A hit can also be any tune or melody that became popular with audiences, or with other musicians, perhaps an even surer way to immortality than a high chart position. There's a little of both in this fourth volume of a four-volume set to survey the popular hits of modern jazz, including Miles Davis' "All of You," John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" and Count Basie's "Jumpin' at the Woodside," to name just three.
