Part of Original Jazz Classics' budget-line series of compilations, Chet Baker's Jazz Six Pack brings together a small cross-section of the trumpeter/vocalist's recorded output. Focused primarily on his Riverside albums from the late '50s, here we get cuts like "Almost Like Being in Love," "It Could Happen to You," and "My Funny Valentine." These are tracks Baker recorded after having relocated to New York City from Los Angeles. Consequently, Baker is backed here by such East Coast luminaries as pianist Kenny Drew, drummer Philly Joe Jones, and others. While most fans will want to seek out the original albums, Jazz Six Pack offers an intimate, romantic set of songs.
