AllMusic Review by

Jazz Sax Classics is an almost overpowering four-disc box set encompassing three albums made for Atlantic during the 1960s -- one each by John Coltrane, Charles Lloyd and Sonny Stitt. It's an odd set, including Coltrane's 1960 masterpiece My Favorite Things, Lloyd's Forest Flower from 1966 (with portions recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival), and most of 1963's Stitt Plays Bird. Each of these are nigh-essential to an understanding of the diversity of 1960s jazz, though it's difficult to figure out just who would need these three together.
