Part of a series of classic jazz compilations by Medacy Entertainment, this collection features a list of songs designed to lull you off to sleep. The collection gets off to a suitably laid-back note with Frank Sinatra singing "This Love of Mine" backed by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra, but the next track, "Any Old Time," has brassy horns which seem jarring in context, even when coupled with the smooth, subdued vocals of Billie Holiday. Louis Jordan's "Man Ain't a Man" is rousing and makes you almost want to get up and dance. Other highlights include Vanessa Rubin's "Black Nile" and Louis Armstrong's "I Sing the Blues," but by the time this collection closes with a funky Gil Scott-Heron song, it is obvious that it has strayed too far from its intended theme to really be successful.
