This LP has the second recording by Jim Cullum Sr.'s Happy Jazz Band, a band that was the predecessor of Jim Cullum Jr.'s famous outfit. At that time Jim Cullum Jr. was just 23 but already a strong cornet player. The San Antonio-based group also featured solos from clarinetist Jim Cullum Sr., trombonist Gene McKinney, and pianist Cliff Gillette. This album has concise versions of ten trad jazz classics, including "Tishomingo Blues," a heated "Royal Garden Blues," "Milenburg Joys," "The Chant," "The Pearls," and "Panama." The ensembles are clean and swinging and the soloists are excellent, particularly the up-and-coming cornetist.
