Sure, the concept's more than a bit cheesy, but think about it this way: given the choice between Jazz for Weddings or a small-town DJ-for-hire whose crate doesn't go much beyond "Celebration," "The Chicken Dance," and "I Will Survive," which would you rather hear at the next wedding reception you attend? And like the vast majority of titles in the Jazz Club budget-line compilation series, Jazz for Weddings doesn't just stick to the tried and true, instead offering up a surprisingly comprehensive and hip overview of its stated subject. As collections of love songs go, this one is pretty effective. Highlights include Johnny Hartman's "Unforgettable," Nina Simone's "Be My Husband," and Gary McFarland's "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
